Past & present FD sailors have a wide range of skills and expertise. Many have considerable sailing achievements. In recent years the Class has encouraged more women sailors to race FDs.

An analysis of the heights, weights and ages of competitors was carried out the Worlds in Hungary in 2005 which were sailed in a wide range of wind conditions- click here for summary of observations and charts (pdf file)

NOTES Previously posted on website for Information only

Membership of IFDCO
It was agreed at the 2002 AGCM that in order to extend the promotion of the Class and to further involve crews, all sailors who participate in the Worlds, Continental and National Championships should be members of IFDCO.

Prior to 2002 the helm needed to be a full member of IFDCO. However, in some cases crews owned the boat and were also full members of IFDCO.

As from 1 January 2004 both the helm and crew of teams entering international events needed to be either a Full or Associate member of IFDCO and at least one needed to be a Full member.

It was originally agreed that from 1 January 2005, Full members were to be re-designated sailing members, the fee was to be reduced to 20 euros and the new eligibility rule came into force. (At the 2004 AGCM it was decided to defer implementation. At the 2005 AGCM it was agreed that the decision would apply from 1 January 2006 and the rate would be 20 Euros for 2006 and the intention is to hold at 20 euros for 2007 and increase to 25 euros for 2008. It was decided at the 2007 AGCM to hold the rate at 20 euros for 2008.

All FD sailors and supporters of the FD are encouraged to become Associate (Non Sailing) members of IFDCO.
