The FD sailors assembled at SLSC, oct 15th, 2006
Next year's calendar is starting to shape up, with a firm date for an east coast North American Championship: May 26-28, Memorial day weekend, at Canandaigua Yacht Club. A three day championship will be followed by a container loading for for 2007 Worlds in Spain. At least five boats will be going over, there may be room for another boat.
A decision has been reached also about 2007 US Nationals. That event will be held at Coronado YC on South San Diego Bay, most probobly the last weekend in September.
| The class association owned trailer is lodged in the north east currently. If anyone north of thr Mason-dixen line wants to go to midwinters and wants to send their boat on the trailer so they can fly down, let me know. I will likely drive. If you want to drive even better. I will give you a pile-o-dollars if you do. (negotiable) |

Since no one has felt like creating a new Bulletin board for us, I have changed the links to point at Sailing Anarchy forums and classifieds. This is a remarkable sailing free-speech zone, very rich in content, though salty as well.
Trapeze:
Our associate Kevin McCabe has taken it on himself to render the trapeze back catalogue into PDF format. Here is his work so far. File sizes range from 2.4 to 8MB so be aware.

Gremlin july 29-30
The 30-somethingth and final Gremlin regatta was held recently in perfect conditions.
Peter announced that there will be no more Gremlin regatta offered, they are retiring from this field. There is always racing on the lake, every saturday and sunday all summer, and anyone with an FD is always invited to Peter's to race, give a call and one or two locals can be scared up.
Nice westerlies both days brought lovely cool dry air, beginning around 5kt in the morning and building thoughout the day to 12kt by evening. 10 races of around 40 minutes each were held, some going clockwise some anticlockwise depending on the wind, as usual this varied around 180 degrees as different parts of the lake heat and cool.
Saturday night, a better feed couldnt be had anywhere, Barbara roasted a turkey and fresh picked new england corn, and many other niceties were to be had. Jon and Ann-Marie Evans ran the races from their recently restored 4Winns I/O. Jon put a chevy 350 in it and it is a nice RC boat. The only spoiler was that there were on ly three (3) FDs in the regatta!
The Hamiltons came down from Saratoga, and USA-7 was there, but no one else made the trip from anywhere.

2006 US Nationals
The 2006 Nationals was quite a good time, the Noroton YC is an excellent place to sail. Nine boats appeared with sailors from both US coasts and across Europe.Winds ranged from barely moving to 30 knot gusts. Event organizer Job Sandberg has provided results and statistics and our friend Kevin McCabe took hundreds of pictures as well as assisting on crash boat dury. |

2006 US Nationals
IFDCAUS has arranged to have this years National regatta at Noroton Yacht Club in southwestern Connecticut, June 9-11. |

Trapeze 153 is complete. It includes a feature on
the 2005 Nationals in St.Petersburg, with fabulous
pictures by Gary Hufford
, and the 2006 NOOD with pictures by Duane Ehleringer. 153 will go in the mail shortly. Work has begun on Trapeze 154 which will include a feature on the 2006 Worlds in St.Pete and will be published around the end of June. |

2006 Worlds is history. It was
a perfect event. The Saint Pete club managed the event flawlessly, the sailing
center was never crowded, the weather was outstanding, and the racing was
thrilling. It is interesting to note that the top seven poitions went to
seven different countries. This is of course can be followed by many "if-only"
scenarios, as there were quite a few did-not-finishes, even among the gold
fleet sailors. There are some photos by Shar Doyle posted at St Pete YC web site http://www.fd-worlds-2006.org/ |

2005 Nationals was held in St.Pete FL over the last weekend of January. It was an excellent event with 15 teams from all over the country. The first place team were perenial champion Lin Robson with local hot shot Eric Boothe crewing. Second place went to Australians Ben Moon and Pete Dowdney in a borrowed boat. They have sailed in FDs only a few times before and never together. The New Zealand ex-pats and 2003 US FD champions Paul Scoffin and Simon Garland took third.
Friday was a nice windy southerly bft 4 declining to 3 during the
day. Saturday was lighter bft 2, which required shorter race courses, but
never died out completely. Sunday was grey and windy, bft 3 building back
to 4, and really building and clocking around to the SW at the end of the
day. The final reach back to the sailing center was a fabulous screaming
plane. We passed a fleet of snipes with their jibs winged out, but they looked
like a flock of gulls bobbing together on the waves hardly moving.
