Dear friends,

You have been infected by the racing virus probably as much as I am. But what is the problem these days? In my opinion good racing area's, good committees, and strong (not especially large) fleets. Of course there are the Olympic games, but do they select the best venues these days? Do you want to sail 7 days a week for 4 years? Probably not!

So what's interesting?
Well, I will tell you. I got information about the Vintage Yachting Games, and I think that's what we are looking for: racing in the former Olympic Classes against former medalists. A superb racing area in the best time of the year (20-27 September 2008), one of the best international racing committees and a hot competition.

Anyway, whatever you do, I made my entry (on www.vintageyachtinggames.org). And of course I hope to see you at this unique series. The classes are: Europe female, Europe male, O-Jolle, Flying Dutchman, Soling and Dragon.

The Vintage Yachting Games is the result of the former Olympic classes wanting to celebrate their combined Olympic history in a high performance regatta. Each country can be represented by their best sailors in each class. The Vintage Yachting Games will be held every four years.

For the first edition in Medemblik, there are already entries from 23 countries. So if your country is not yet represented in one of those classes, just contact Rudy den Outer (rudy@vintageyachtinggames.org) and make sure you can participate, because this is one of those seldom possibilities to race under the best circumstances against the best competitors.

Kwalificatieregels Vintage Yachting Games 2008 20 t/m 27 september 2008:

Voor de selectie van 2 teams voor de VYG 2008 zijn de volgende wedstrijden als selectiewedstrijden aangewezen:

• Easter Egg – Loosdrecht                    22 t/m 24 maart 2008
• North Sea Regatta – Scheveningen     9 t/m 12 mei 2008

Alle gezeilde wedstrijden tellen mee voor de selectie.
Met meer dan 5 gezeilde wedstrijden zal 1 slechtste score komen te vervallen.
Met meer dan 9 gezeilde wedstrijden zullen 2 slechtste scores komen te vervallen.
Met meer dan 12 gezeilde wedstrijden zullen 3 slechtste scores komen te vervallen.

Er wordt gerekend met het  Low Point Scoring System volgens Appendix A of de RRS. 
(mocht er een exact gelijke eindstand van deelnemers voorkomen, zal de volgorde van het klassement voor deze deelnemers bepaald worden zonder aftrek van slechtste scores.)

• Het is toegestaan om selectiewedstrijden met een wisselende bemanning / stuurman te varen. Eén verantwoordelijk persoon dient echter alle selectiewedstrijden in een boot aanwezig te zijn.
• Uiterlijk 1 juli 2008 dienen de geselecteerde teams te besluiten of deelgenomen gaat worden aan de VYG 2008. Indien er geen gebruik wordt gemaakt van de startplaats, heeft het opvolgende team van het eindklassement de mogelijkheid zich aan te melden voor deelname.
• Volgens de NOR van de VYG dient tenminste 1 persoon van een geselecteerd team tijdens de VYG aan boord te zijn.

With the entry of the Romania entry in the Flying Dutchman Class, the number of participating countries in the Vintage Yachting Games is now 15.

This number includes competitors from Europe, North America, and South America including the Caribbean area. Besides these countries, we are promised entries as well from Asia, Oceania and Africa.

The entered countries are:

AHO, BEL, BRA, DEN, FRA, GBR, GER, HUN, NED, POR, ROM, SWE, URU, USA and the entrees included in the Vintage Yachting Games wildcard group

The Vintage Yachting Games will be held from 20-27 SEP-2008 in Medemblik. Participation will be in the Europe female, Europe male, O-Jolle, Flying Dutchman, Soling and Dragon class. The Vintage Yachting Games is the result of the former Olympic classes wanting to celibrate their combined Olympic history in a high performance regatta. Each county can be represented by their best sailors in each class. The Vintage Yachting Games will be held every four years.
